The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick by a priest, absolves someone of sin and hopefully, heals the person, during a serious illness. A Catholic need not be dying to have this Sacrament.

The person may not be physically healed of the illness, but spiritual healing is a large part of healing the soul through God's love and the Holy Spirit, and preparing the person for whatever may come.
